Metal finishing capabilities
Olymco, Inc. is an electroplating and metal finishing business in Canton, Ohio. It lists ten finishing processes, from chrome and nickel plating to electropolishing, passivation, and hand polishing, along with light assembly, packaging, and shipping after the finish. Start with the process or the specification on your print, then send the alloy, dimensions, and lot quantity.
Processes and what each one is for
Chrome and nickel plating
Decorative chrome plating
Bright reflective chromium over a polished nickel underplate. Include appearance, preparation, and corrosion requirements.
Black chrome
Dark, low-reflectance chromium where glare or appearance matters. Define the required shade, gloss, or measurable reflectance criteria.
Semi chrome
Between decorative and hard chrome, for parts that have to look right and take moderate wear. Confirm thickness, underplate, appearance, and performance requirements.
Solar black chrome
A black chrome tuned for solar absorber surfaces. Include absorptance, emittance, and the required measurement method.
Hard chrome
Thick, hard chromium for wear surfaces and for bringing worn parts back to size. Include finished dimensions and any subsequent grinding requirement.
Nickel plating
Corrosion and wear protection, dimensional build, or the underplate beneath chrome. Identify the exact nickel process and thickness required.
Stainless steel treatments
Electropolishing
Removes a controlled layer of metal to smooth, brighten, and clean 300 series stainless. Provide the target finish and dimensional allowances.
Nitric passivation
Clears free iron off stainless so the passive layer re-forms. Identify the grade, specified method, and acceptance test.
Polishing, powder coating, and assembly
Hand polishing
Surface preparation and polishing for parts with a visible finish, in Olymco’s in-house polishing department. Define the show surfaces and the required result.
Powder coating
Electrostatic dry film cured to a durable colored finish. Include the coating specification, color, gloss, masking, and part dimensions.
Assembly, packaging, and shipping
Light assembly and handling after finishing, including packaging and shipment options. Describe the complete job, including any direct shipment to a third party.

Hard chrome. The finish used on wear surfaces and to bring a worn part back to size.
Electropolishing. A formed stainless tube, brightened by removing metal rather than adding it.
Decorative chrome. The bright layer goes over a nickel underplate.
Match the process to the part
Send the exact alloy and condition, overall dimensions and weight, and quantity per lot. Include the finish specification, critical tolerances, masking, and any inspection or certificate requirements.
If the finish is undecided, describe the application and the result it must achieve. For a process outside the listed range, contact Olymco to discuss whether the work can be addressed.
